Thomas grew up in Dickson County, TN, and is living in his parents' home through the 1900 Census. In 1910, he has been married for five years and has two children. They are living in the area where he grew up, in District 4 of Dickson County, and he is working as a salesman at a dry goods store. In the 1920 census, he and his family have moved to Nashville, where he is working as a clerk. He remains in Nashville in the 1930 census, and is working as a clerk at the railroad office.
Thomas' son Ward Hassell Oliphant had his father's wallet after his death, and it contained his pension and insurance cards from his retirement from the railroad. They indicate that TM worked for the Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis Railway, and was described as 5'9" tall with grey eyes.
TM's WWI draft registration card confirms his birth date and describes him as tall, of medium build, and with blue eyes and light hair. While many of the records concerning Thomas spell his middle name "Maberry", his draft registration spells it "Mayberry" as does his signature on the card.
Have picture of grave stone.
