Estinable character. He was an examplary husband, a kind and
Tender parent, a devoted friend and a devout Christian. His probity
Was proverbial and in all his transactions with his fellow men he was
Governed by the strictest rules of justice and honor. Some years
Before his death he attached himself to the Methodist Church and

Believe that the marriage records listed as sources are for this Alfred, and that the Nancy listed in the 1850 Census as a head of household with 6 children is the Nancy that married Alfred for the following reasons:
1) The first child in Nancy's home (John) was born in 1833, one year after the marriage record for Alfred and Nancy.
2) One of the children is named Alfred.
3) The last child, Berdoty, was born in 1843; Alfred died in 1847 and there are no later children.
4) Berdoty is buried in the same burial ground as Alfred.

Alfred's son, Alfred W., indicates in the 1880 census that both his father and his mother Nancy were born in Virginia.
