Her hair was died red. Everyone in Bull Run and all those hills made their living off bootlegging. She was running for the bootleggers. She had a big Chrysler car and did runs to Nashville. The revenue officer lived in a little town on the other side of Bordeaux (sp?) - kept trying to catch her but never did. Never did any harm to anyone but herself. Took in children (orphan kids) and raised them. Was the best housekeeper, cooked & canned(source: Ruby Hewgley Barnes).
A Davis family photo that was in the belongings of Elba Hewgley Oliphant listed her name on the back as Bessie Mae Davis Morgan.
