There is a James Hewgley buried in the Goodman Cemetery in Wilson County TN. The dates on his stone are 5/12/1784-6/15/1815. Given that we know James' wife Mary came to TN, and remarried in Wilson County in 1817, it is likely that this is that James, meaning that James and Mary came together.
Another note of interest if this is the same James, is that the only other Hewgley burried in Goodman Cemetery is Rebecca Hewgley Hessey. She was the daughter, according to her stone, of Jacob and Margaret Hewgley in VA. Perhaps James is their son.

12/09/04 - Found the following at http://members.aol.com/genny1/carver1.html:
"Mary Hummer Hewgley was the sister of James Hummer, who was drowned in Stones River with her husband James Hewgley...and these two men are buried in the Hessey Graveyard east of Carver Lane, WCT
James Hewgley was a brother of Rebecca Hewgley who married John Hessey, and their daughter was Mary Ann Hessey who married Charles Wright (RH, JH, MAH, and CW all buried in Hessey Graveyard). "
- Robert Powell Carver
If correct, this would confirm James as the son of Jacob and Margaret. According to the transcription I have of the cemetery (by the same Robt. Carver), James Hewgley and William Hummer are buried next to each other and have the same death date.
