Josephine is not listed in the writings of TM Oliphant, but she appears in each of the censuses from 1850 through the end of the century. She is the oldest of the children of PW Oliphant in those censuses, but there is such a large difference between her birth date and those of the girl(s) we know of from the previous marriage, I believe she is the first child he had with Mary Fitzhugh.
There are some other researchers that believe that she and Mary J. are the same person.
In the 1880 census, she is living in the home of her sister Charlotte and her family.
