There is considerable confusion about Susan's birth date, with the different census records indicating wildly different years for her birth.
According to Marjorie Northern Hewgley, she was actually a twin to Sam, and both of them were born on July 19 1863. She also notes that Susan and William Vaughn were married in 1904, and that he was a widower with two children- his first wife was Birdie Hewgley, daughter of Thomas M. Hewgley, who was Susie's brother.
