It appears that Elizabeth Lane Oliphant is the daughter of John and Sally Lane. In 1850, she and husband William live next door to John and Sally first in September in Rutherford County, then in December in Gibson County. In 1860, a John J. Lain lives in her home, who is the same age as the child John Lane that was in John and Sally's home in 1850. In 1880, Eliabeth lives in the home of Samuel Lane - he is of the right age to the be the Samuel in John and Sally's house in 1850. Her relationship to Samuel is listed as 'sister' in the census.
John and Sally are were both from Virginia, lived in Rutherford Co TN, and then Gibson Co TN.
John was a Methodist minister according to census records.
