INDEX

[2120] In the 1880 census, there is a W. J. Oliphant living in Wilson County TN that is the right age to be this William. I list the census record here for further research to confirm or deny this possibility:

1880 Census, District 25 Wilson County
W. J. Oliphant Age 30 Self Marketer
S. I. Oliphant Age 31 Wife Keeping House
Edna E. Oliphant Age 6 Daughter
Willie G. Oliphant Age 5 Son
Annie Oliphant 11/12 Daughter

In the 1900 census, there is only one Oliphant record in Wilson County. There are four Oliphants listed in the home of a Aaron and Annie Bass, and they all are listed as in-laws of Aaron Bass. Aaron's wife Annie is the correct age to be the Annie listed in W.J.'s home in 1880, and the oldest Oliphant in their home is a 'Gordon', who is the right age to be the Willie G. in W.J.'s home above. The other three Oliphant's in the home would have been born after the 1880 census, and are likely other children of W. J. and S. I. Oliphant:

1900 Census, District 25, Wilson County
Aaron Bass Head Age 38
Annie Bass Wife 21
Gordon Oliphant Brother-in-law 25
Ora Oliphant Sister-in-law 16
Jessie Oliphant Brother-in-law 15
Gilbert Oliphant Brother-in-law 10

Continuing with this speculation, there are two homes in the 1910 census to look at. Annie is now widowed, and with brother Gilbert has moved to Davidson County, where they are boarding with the McElroy family. The sole remaining Oliphant family in Wilson County is that of Willie G. Oliphant, now married and in his own home. He has been married for one year.

1910 Census, District 25, Wilson County
Willie G. Olephant Head Age 35
Ella Olephant Wife Age 34

1910 Census, Ward 15 Nashville, Davidson County
(in home of George W. and Mary E. McElroy)
Annie Bass Boarder 32
Gilbert Oliphant Boarder 20
