A Samuel H. Oliphant married Nancy Shackleford in Rutherford Co. on 1/15/1820. Perhaps this is the same Samuel.
There is, however, another possibility; in 11/03/1825 a Samuel Oliphant married Tabitha Charter in Davidson County.
Either one of these could be our Samuel, or these could be the same Samuel and there be two different marriages.
Looking at the 1850 and later census records, I can find no pairing of a Samuel and Nancy Oliphant nor a Samuel and Tabitha Oliphant in Tennessee. There is, however, a Tabitha Oliphant as a head of household in Maury County in 1850.
There is a Samuel Olivant between 16 and 26 years old in his own household in Rutherford County in 1820; given this it is most likely that the Samuel married at the beginning of 1820 is our Samuel.
Best guess (big guess) right now is that Tabitha and Samuel were of the Maury County Oliphant family, and that the marriage between Samuel H. and Nancy Shackleford in Rutherford County is our Samuel.
Other researchers have Samuel moving to Leavenworth Kansas.
