The grave could not hold him.
The chief priests and the Pharisees had done their best. Visiting Pilate after Jesus’ death, they had secured a guard of soldiers from the governor, and had made sure the tomb was secure. The stone was set in place and sealed, the guard was put in place, all to make sure there was no way Jesus would turn up missing.
Stones and seals and guards are no match for earthquakes, angels, and the risen Lord, however. They are no match for the love of God for us, and his plan to reconcile us to him. That plan demanded a triumph over death. That plan demanded a risen savior who held all authority in heaven and on earth.
